Introduction to Grand Companies
In Final Fantasy XIV, Grand Companies are military organizations that represent the three main city-states of Eorzea: The Immortal Flames of Ul'dah, The Order of the Twin Adder of Gridania, and The Maelstrom of Limsa Lominsa.
Players can join one of these Grand Companies as part of the Level 20 Main Scenario Quest, and completing tasks for them will earn players Company Seals, which can be exchanged for various items, such as gear, crafting materials, and mounts.
Which Grand Company you choose will have little bearing on the rewards you can obtain outside of armour or housing items based on their city-state.
Grand Company Ranks
Grand Company Missions
One of the main allures for ranking up your Grand Company Rank are Missions, which allow you to hand in armour to the Grand Company Personnel Officer in exchange for Experience Points and Company Seals.
Supply and Provision Missions
Supply and Provision Missions are daily turn-in missions for each Crafter and Gatherer class which reward you with large amounts of Experience Points and Company Seals. The rewards are doubled if you hand in a High Quality item.
Expert Delivery Missions
Farming Company Seals to Rank Up
Private Third Class to Sergeant Second Class
If you have used a Main Scenario skip or Job Level-Boost from the Final Fantasy XIV store, you may find it difficult to gain momentum in increasing your Grand Company Rank until you reach the Sergeant Second Class rank and unlock Expert Delivery Missions. You have various options that you can cycle through to make progressing through those first few ranks much more straightforward.
Leveling Roulette with Adventurer in Need
Duty Roulette: Leveling with the Adventurer in Need bonus is one of the fastest ways to gain Company Seals. The Adventurer in Need is usually a Tank or Healer class and is not limited to once per day. Having either of these classes at Level 16 or above is highly recommended and will greatly speed up farming Company Seals.
Conveniently, you can queue for the Leveling Roulette while accomplishing some of the other tasks to farm Company Seals. You'll also be able to obtain equipment via rolling Need / Greed on loot to exchange later.
Company Hunting Log
Expert Delivery Missions Unlocked
Upon promoting to Second Lieutenant, you will be able to speak to the Personnel Officer and agree to become a Squadron Commander. This will unlock the entry to the Barracks which will be a door in the Grand Company Hall. The Squadrons system will allow you to recruit and train NPC soldiers which you can take into some instanced dungeons to fight alongside you.
Once you enter the Grand Company Barracks, speak to the Squadron Sergeant who will suggest that you read the Enlistment Papers on the desk. You will already have 3 recruits randomly assigned to you present in the Barracks, and you will now be able to choose a fourth to officially form your Squadron by checking the Enlistment Papers.
If no new recruits are available, you will need to complete all the entries for any of the categories in the Challenge Log to unlock recruits for enlistment. The Enlistment Papers will show a quest icon when there are new recruits available.
When your first recruit is available, you'll need to select [Question] then [Recruit] to form your Squadron.
Now you will be able to speak to the Squadron Sergeant to send them on their first Squadron Mission which will be called City Patrol. Squadron Missions are similar to Retainer Ventures, and this first mission will last 1 hour.
Once the Squadron Mission is complete, speak to the Squadron Sergeant to check the Mission Debriefing and receive the Experience Points rewards for your recruits.
You'll now be able to send your Squadron on Training Courses to gain Experience and increase their stats further by checking the Regimen Board, however this training will also take time meaning that they cannot go on missions while training. The stats will function as requirements for Squadron Missions in addition to their Level so be sure to choose Training Courses that increase stats that your team is lacking, there is also a Comprehensive Training session that will give them extra Experience Points instead of redistributing their stats if they're already capped. Training Courses will last 1 hour and you are limited to 3 sessions per day, all currently recruited Squadron members will go on Training Courses if they haven't already been sent on a mission.
Now you can speak to the Squadron Sergeant again to see the list of available missions that you can send your recruits on, be sure to choose missions that are appropriate for their level so they have a good chance of succeeding. Squadron Missions will last 18 hours and each individual mission can only be completed once per week with only 4 Squadron members being able to carry them out.
It is advised to do 3 Training Courses per day before doing an 18 hour Squadron Mission overnight.
Once your Squadron members reach level 20, you'll unlock the Squadron Mission called Flagged Mission: Voidsent Elimination. You will need to meet the Attribute requirements for the mission to succeed to be sure to carry out Training Schedules if any stats are highlighted in red instead of blue.
Once complete, your Squadron will be promoted Rank 2 which means you'll now be able to speak to the Squadron Sergeant to carry out Command Missions. Your Squadron will also have a higher Attribute cap of 280.
Command Missions take place in dungeons, you will pick 3 members to go into the dungeon. Your Squadron will be controlled by AI but you will have some simple commands to influence their actions.
You'll now be able to carry out a combination of Comprehensive Training Schedules, Squadron Missions and Command Missions to level up your Squadron.
Upon your members reaching Level 40, you'll unlock a new Squadron Mission called Flagged Mission: Crystal Recovery. Once you meet the Attribute requirements and complete this Squadron Mission, your Squadron will be promoted to Rank 3 and you will automatically be promoted to First Lieutenant rank in your Grand Company. Your Attribute cap will also be increased to 400 so be sure to complete Training Schedules to boost weaker Attributes as this will make achieving the next rank far easier.
Congratulations on reaching the currently highest Grand Company Rank of Captain, your Company Seals will now have a maximum cap of 90,000.
